Picture yourself with a flawless smile.
Thanks to CEREC, a picture-taking, crown-making system, Jacksonville Dentist Dr. Michael Moore can fix decayed, broken, cracked or chipped teeth in a single office visit.
Now you can have inlays, onlays and crowns made while you wait, rather than going through a prolonged two-part process of having your tooth prepped for a permanent restoration, and then returning to the doctors’ office two weeks later to replace a temporary restoration provided to you while waiting for your permanent one to be made.
The process makes the most of your valuable time by eliminating the need to take multiple days off work just to restore one tooth or several teeth. The ability to provide inlays and onlays enables Dr. Moore to be more conservative in his treatment by preserving as much of a patient’s natural tooth as possible.
Inlays and onlays allow Dr. Moore to remove only the decayed portions of the teeth and craft porcelain restorations that bond directly to the remaining portion of the natural teeth.
The CEREC system makes the restorations while you wait in the office. In addition to the benefit of getting everything done in a single visit, you no longer have to go through the messy process of having an impression taken to make your permanent restoration. CEREC replaced that step with a simple photo process.
Dr. Moore takes pictures that show your teeth’s arches. Then he downloads the pictures into the CEREC software, which takes the information and uses it to carve out a restoration from a block of porcelain in the office.
CEREC has streamlined the entire process for everyone involved. As a patient, you will no longer experience being inconvenienced by losing a temporary restoration. To use the traditional crown process as an example, losing a temporary crown meant that you had to take more time out of your day to come to our office so we could work in an appointment for you to have a replacement temporary crown made.
The benefits of CEREC go beyond simple convenience. Compared to traditional crowns and other restorations, CEREC’s strength and longevity are equal to- if not better than- traditional porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns. The porcelain used in the CEREC process is four times as strong as the kind used in traditional crowns. And, unlike traditional crowns, the margins of CEREC crowns blend so well that you cannot feel where the crown ends and the tooth begins. You also won’t notice any discoloration separating the two.
Dr. Moore opted to purchased the CEREC system from Sirona, part of Siemans Corp., due in part to the company’s commitment to dental technology advancements. The company has a $500 million annual research and development budget designated for dental purposes.
